Sometimes you hear the story of a couple and you just know their is something special. Lauren and Joe had a such long road to their wedding day. They met very young at Chevys in Staten Island, dated and then broke up. They went their separate ways thinking they’d never see each other again. Until many years later when a random Facebook message brought them back together.
Their story became even more amazing when we learned that Joe was one of the first people in the United States to be diagnosed with HIV. He’s been living with the disease and advocating for awareness for almost his entire life.
Lauren and Joe decided to get married on the Jersey Shore and had their ceremony set up right on the beach. Wind is always an issue in these situations, but we were able to save the audio using Bubblebee wind screens. If you are going to be capturing audio outside these are vital to have. The ceremony itself was interesting to shoot because the chairs were set up in a spiral with the bride and groom in the center. These non typical situations really require you to think on your feet and use all your instincts to get the shots you need.
After the ceremony we were under a bit of time crunch, but we still managed to get an creative beach shots with Lauren and Joe. There is nothing like shooting at sunset on the beach and the bride and groom were game for everything that we and Dzemo Halilovic (photography) came up with.
